Shopping DVF

6 01 2009

After watching The City last night, I got a little jonesing for a new DVF dress – I mean, aren’t they all so divine? The wrap dress does things to a woman’s body that only a doctor can do! And the bundle up into tiny little balls in my luggage and come out looking perfectly with no wrinkles! Ooh, here are a few of my favourites from the resort collection.

Refresh: Style Statement

2 01 2009

I know I’ve talked about the Style Statement book before, but my life took over and I was unfortunate to not really be able to spent time with this book. More than a book, it’s a journal on self-reflection, trying to find yourself, define yourself and live by your definition, or rather, your style statement.

One of my new years resolutions was to actually work through this book, which I am starting to now. Also, check out the reviews on Amazon if you don’t believe me – all 5 star reviews – this book is more than just a book, it’s a guide on how to live your life.

Check out Carrie & Danielle’s personal website for more inspiration.

Manolo Lust

14 11 2008

Burgundy snake skin d’orsay pumps. Gorgeous, breathtaking, and will most definitely leave you walking on air.

My love for all things yellow has not yet been forgotten, and the hunt for the most perfect yellow shoes and bags still goes on. I think these shoes satisfy not only that urge but also my love for all things animal print as well. How can you go wrong?

At first glance, these bejewelled pink sling-backs are hilarious. Tacky. Over the top. Gaudy. And yet, they remind me of some kind of princess dream, a plastic Barbie, and all things good and girly. I need to try these on to see just how bad they’ll look!

One Fifth Avenue

21 08 2008

Pre-Order One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell today! The book comes out September 10, 2008 and I can’t wait!! There is an excerpt from the book in this month’s crazy big Vogue fashion issue and it’s sounds so tempting and juicy.

My favourite character is a young golddigger who has watched every episode of Sex & The City and moves to New York to find a man. Love it.

Anyone who’s a fan of Ms Busnell’s writing will enjoy this highly anticipated novel!

The Fit Flop

19 08 2008

I have to admit, I’m a sucker for gimmicks. Anything that claims to slim you down, tone you up, and make you look leaner – I’m interested in. But one thing that never really got my attention was the Fit Flop. The first time I saw it was in Victoria’s Secret and thought “Why would I pay $50 for plain flip flops?”.

But then… The Fashionable Housewife blogged that she lost weight, a pant size, and got her husband checking out her legs and ass – from wearing Fit Flops.

So I bought them. Obviously. There wasn’t even a question in my mind that if someone else tried them and liked them – well then why shouldn’t I try them and hopefully like them.

I got them last week in the mail (ordered from VS, the red ones) and have worn them for just maybe a few hours here and there. I can’t wear them to work but I’ll wear them when I get home, around the house, and doing errands (even though they’re not as cute as Manolo’s).

So far I haven’t discovered any slimming and toning effects – but they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve put on my feet in a long time.

After standing around for 8 hours in 4″ heels (and they’re usually Cole Haan’s with nike technology which is supposed to be super comfy!), I come home, rub lotion on my feet and put on my fitflops. It’s so cushiony and gentle on your feet, I love them.

I just need to walk in them more to really lose weight!

Does anyone else have them and love them? Let me know!

Flat Obsessed?

1 08 2008

Let me confess something to you first.

I hate flats.

Skimmers, flat-heeled, slip-ons – whatever you want to call them. I hate them. Flat shoes. Blegh. I wouldn’t ever wear them even though they were a huge trend. I hate the way they make my size 9 wide feet look – like duck feet. HUGE!

Heels also make you look sexier. Taller. Slimmer. Sleeker.

And heels were also more interesting. There’s so much more to a heel than a flat.

Until I met a Tory Burch Reva shoe that I could not put down.

Leopard print pony hair with a gold “T” logo.

Oh my God.

I am in love with these shoes so much. They are gorgeous. Everything I want in a show – animal print, furry, sexy, gold, interesting, AND comfortable. Oh yes my darlings, they are so comfortable. So in fact that I also purchased the black leather flats. The leather is so soft, so comfortable, so when my leopard print shoes won’t match, I can wear my black ones!

It’s amazing that I even like these shoes or that they even fit my feet properly!

And for fall? Do you know what Tory came out with?

Suede wine-coloured flats. Suede. In a deep dark burgundy red.

Sweet Lord I want them now.

You D’Orsay?

28 07 2008

These beautiful D’Orsay pumps will be mine this Friday. Yes, this Friday – payday. They’re on hold. I tried them on already. I LOVE them. They’re magical but this picture doesn’t do them justice! I will take pix when I get them.

Let Me Slip into Something More…

22 07 2008

Comfortable. And Sexy. Who would have thought?

Dolce & Gabbana makes the best bra I’ve ever had. Yesterday I purchased one of these bras on sale – my size is difficult to find, and is sometimes even too small or too big – I’ve just found the best fitting bra I’ve had in a long time.

I jumped and they stayed put. Bent over and they didn’t fall out. The straps are even made a touch wider than usual straps. I’m in love. The bra set me back about $70, but marked down from the original $198, it really didn’t seem that bad.

And I look hot.

Thanks D & G.

A Grown-Up Closet

29 06 2008

When I was younger, I used to get a thrill out of clothes shopping, especially for the hangers. Yes, you heard right, the cheap plastic hangers that came with my cheap clothes from Zellers, Old Navy and KMart? Remember those? Because it would mean that I could hang up my clothes and have a more grown up closet (my mother would only buy me so many of the plastic hangers from the dollar store – meaning many of my clothes were in the dresser drawers). And of course a grown up closet has the majority of their clothes hanging off of hangers.

As I grew up and started shopping for my own clothes at nicer stores, I noticed that not only were the hangers twice as nice (wooden, black strong plastic, or sometimes satin at lingerie stores), but I also noticed they no longer came with the clothes. That’s right, I was buying nicer clothes but they would have to go on my used K-Mart plastic clothes hangers. I eventually bumped up to buying all white plastic clothes hangers in multipacks from Walmart.

But now I decided I am a grown up. Well, in most ways anyway. And I heard about Joy Mangano’s Huggable Hangers. I first read about it in a book (Gigi Anders, thank god for you), then I was flipping channels and lo and behold they were on The Shopping Channel. So I watched. And I watched. And I went online.

I ended up ordering 72 regular hangers, 20 finger clips, and 3 pants hangers. All in black. Surprisingly, they are all arriving seperately – WHY shopping channel, WHY? I received my first shipment on Friday, and I received the pants hangers. I really wasn’t impressed – with the channel.

I wanted to redo my closet all at once in these posh little hangers that were so expensive.

I opened up the packaging and noticed that these hangers were different. They had a texture to them that was between ultra-suede and velvet, which means your clothes will never fall off of them. I am eternally grateful to them. Now if only the rest of my hangers would come in!! UPS says Monday.

I will be waiting by the door, thank you very much.

Check them out here.
